Youth Education
Help young people connect with birds!
Liberty Bird Alliance volunteers work with elementary and middle school students as part of our educational outreach about birds and bird protection. Students participate in an array of activities and learn to focus on the many beautiful birds just outside their windows and doors. Our volunteers encourage students to take delight in identifying birds and their behaviors, and to appreciate the value of healthy habitats for birds and for people. Liberty Bird Alliance volunteers make presentations during the school year on migration and bird identification, lead guided bird walks on the school grounds and nearby locations, and provide technical support for creating local bird habitats. Young birders have WAS volunteer support when they visit the Militia Hill Hawk Watch in September, participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count in February, and celebrate International Migratory Bird Day in May.Clubs and Classrooms Provide
Where
Groups meet at school either before or after the school day, or during a lunch break.

Liberty Bird Alliance Provides
Lessons
Liberty Bird Alliance provides up to four to six “lessons” during the course of the school year on the topics of fall migration, winter feeder birds, and spring migrationBird walks on the school grounds
Bird Walks
Volunteers can lead bird walks on school grounds to familiarize students with the plants and birds common to their school environment.
Habitat
Support and guidance can be arranged for schools aiming to foster bird-friendly habitat on their school grounds.
Visits
Opportunities are available to visit the Militia Hill Hawk Watch in September, during the Great Backyard Bird Count in February, and for International Migratory Bird Day in May.

Liberty Bird Alliance also sponsors Audubon Adventures educational programs in public, private, and parochial elementary schools in our chapter territory. These range from the Olney Christian School in Philadelphia to the Blue Bell Elementary School in the Wissahickon School District.
We provide club sponsors and their students with a subscription to the Audubon Adventures “newspaper” that is devoted to various conservation themes. Liberty Bird Alliance volunteers augment these with special presentations and activities. Bird Walks on the school property are a featured. We welcome volunteers to help us with these activities.
