Last Minute Trip with Lasting Impacts:
Flock to Marion 2025
Linda Widdop
A voyage of epic proportions sailing from South Africa south to the Prince Edward Islands for 8 days with over 1900 birders to raise funds for the Mouse-Free Marion Project. I learned about the trip on Jan 9th, booked on Jan 12th and was in South Africa on Jan 21st and set sail on Jan 24th! We ran due south from Durban through the Southern Indian Ocean to the brink of the Southern Ocean with spectacular views of Albatross, Petrels, Prions, Penguins and more! This voyage served as a fundraising and awareness campaign raising over $500,000 through various sources for conservation causes, a staggering sum and testament to the importance of the Mouse-Free Marion Project.
Linda Widdop has been birding enthusiastically for over 25 years. She is past president of Delaware Valley Ornithology Club (DVOC) and is a founding representative of DVOC for Bird Safe Philly, a joint venture with Liberty Bird Alliance, Valley Forge Audubon, Mid-Atlantic Audubon and Academy of Natural Sciences with a goal of reducing bird/building collisions in Philadelphia. Linda is an avid traveler being fortunate to travel often for her job with the nonprofit Tech Impact and of course, tacking on bird extensions whenever possible. You probably know her as the person that tags along with Peanut, the Wonder Dog out in the field.
